// RizLab Project - Jamie xx & Quayola - London - 22-09-11 //

For the first ever RizLab project, Jamie xx has chosen to work with world-renowned visual artist Quayola. RizLab is a project created to allow credible, pioneering artists to freely experiment and embrace their personal passions.  Jamie xx, who first rose to mainstream fame as one third of Mercury Prize winning band The xx, has wanted to work with Quayola ever since first coming across his work earlier this year. Jamie xx said of Quayola: “Having played at so many parties this year, it's exciting to be able to use Quayola's work to immerse the crowd deeper into the whole experience.” Following his success with The xx, Jamie has become a renowned producer in his own right – remixing the likes of Adele, Florence + The Machine and Jack Penate, whilst also releasing a full solo album – a complete re-working of the legendary Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘I’m New Here’.On the night, Jamie xx will be playing an extended four-hour set that will premiere new material from his forthcoming EP. At the same time, Quayola will be performing live in real-time alongside him to create a visual feast on two 17 metre wide screens in full HD. Quayola, who, amongst others, has exhibited at the V & A, Venice Bienalle and the Royal Albert Hall, is famed for using photography, geometry, time-based digital sculptures and AV installations in his immersive multi-media performances. For this performance, Quayola will be using the custom-built software Partitura alongside long-time friends and collaborators Abstract Birds.

On working with Jamie xx, Quayola commented: "It's amazing to receive this kind of support for such a complex, challenging and experimental project like this one. I'm very keen on working with Jamie xx and I'm looking forward to seeing how the audience will react to this immersive experience." Tom Baker, famed ‘Eat Your Own Ears’ promoter and one of the RizLab Curators, commented: "Jamie xx is a true creative talent who is perfect for RizLab; someone who has a wealth of creative ideas and ambitions that he wants to fulfil and someone that will excite and inspire our audience." The joint performance, titled ‘Structures’ will be held at an as-yet to be announced London venue on 22/09/11. Boom.
